Our beautiful Sonja passed away suddenly in a tragic transfer truck/vehicle traffic accident in Chattanooga, TN this past Tuesday evening. She lost her mother five years prior. That loss affected her deeply.

Sonja is preceded in death by her grandfather, Buck Powell; mother, Tara Sue Powell; aunt, Renee Harry Goswick; cousin Franz Metz, Jr; great aunt, Carol Metz, uncle, Ellis Powell.

She is survived by her father, Ed Powell; brother, Jeremy Griffin Powell wife Jennifer; daughter, Victoria Tori Powell; significant other, Rodney Tyler Fugate (Tori’s Dad); grandparents, Juanita Powell, Steve Harry, Andres and Susan Torres; aunt, Patricia Powell; uncles, Tommy and Jesse Powell, Aaron, Steven, Harry, Robie, Franz and Larry Metz. Other survivors include nephews, cousins and many other loving extended family members.

She will also be remembered for her love of animals, horseback riding, miniature golf, county fairs, loved riding the rides and she loved to read and was an avid reader.

We will all miss you terribly! We love you Sonja always!

Funeral services to celebrate the life of Sonya Powell will be 2:00 pm Tuesday, April 28, 2026, from the Chapel of Jones Funeral Home of Chatsworth.

The family will receive friends from 12:00 pm until 2:00 pm Tuesday, April 28, 2026.
