Shirley Fay Rountree Dunn, age 93, of Springfield, passed away Friday, April 10 at Northcrest Medical Center. A memorial service will be conducted at 2pm Friday, April 24, 2026 at the Springfield First United Methodist Church, 511 Oak Street, Springfield, TN 37172, with Rev. Jason Jones officiating. The family will receive friends from 11am until time of the service on Friday, at the church.
Inurnment will take place at 2pm Saturday, April 25, 2026 in Whitfield Memorial Gardens, 710 W Cuyler Street, Dalton, GA 30720. The family will receive friends from 12-2pm Saturday at Christ Church Presbyterian, 510 S. Tibbs Road, Dalton, GA 30720.
Shirley was born in Swainsboro, Ga on February 7, 1933 to the late Dennis Ray Rountree and Osteen Hostilo Rountree. She graduated from high school in Vidalia, Ga at the age of 16 and proceeded on to nursing school. She completed her RN degree at the age of 19 and began her nursing career as a surgical nurse that spanned nearly five decades.
Shirley married the love of her life, Raymond Dunn, in 1952 and they had 20 wonderful years together before his death. Shirley loved her family deeply and found great joy from family gatherings, and any sports event, dance recital, or choral performance she could attend. She also spent many hours with friends playing bridge and traveling the world. She was a member Christchurch Presbyterian in Dalton, Georgia, and attended Springfield First United Methodist church after her move to Springfield, Tennessee
In addition to her parents, she was proceeded in death by her husband, Raymond Mobley Dunn, Sr.
She is survived by her son, Raymond M. Dunn, Jr. and his wife Kresha; her daughter, Ramona(Mona) Dunn Sutherland and her husband, Neil; her 6 Grandchildren, Allison Hettinger(Chris), Sarah Baldwin(Jeremy), Emily Hollingsworth(Sam), Trey Dunn, Ivy Cofer(Thomas), Molly Roberts(Patrick) and 16 great grandchildren.
