Obituary

Ms. Shelia Lynn Young, age 64, of Dalton, Georgia, departed this life on Tuesday evening, June 9, 2026, at the local hospital.

Shelia was born on February 26, 1962, in Dalton, Georgia. She was preceded in death by the father of her children, Randy Ridley, and her sister and brother-in-law, Becky and Donald Burchfield.

Shelia was a faithful member of Varnell Church of God and dedicated many years of service to Bailey Company, where she worked in parts management. More than anything, Shelia will be remembered for her warm and loving spirit. She was truly a people person who never met a stranger. Whether sharing a conversation with a lifelong friend or someone she had just met, Shelia had a remarkable gift for making others feel welcome and valued. Her kind heart, sweet nature, and genuine love for people left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know her. She loved to talk, laugh, and spend time with family and friends, and her presence brought comfort and joy to countless lives.

She is survived by her daughter, Stacy Christianson; son, Jeremy Ridley; parents, Rev. Dallas and Joy Parker; grandchildren, Mason Ridley, Dakota Christianson, Kayla Christianson, and Hunter Christianson; brother and sister-in-law, David and Wanda Parker; sister, Wendy Reed and Tommy Riffle, all of Dalton, Georgia; and several beloved nieces and nephews, including Pamela and Mitch Mitchell, Matthew and Shaunta Parker, and Josh and Kimberly Parker.

Services to celebrate the life of Ms. Shelia Lynn Young will be held on Wednesday, June 17, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. at Varnell Church of God with Reverend James Lynn officiating. Entombment will follow in the Resurrection Mausoleum at Colonial Hills Memorial Park. Mason Ridley, Jeremy Ridley, Hunter Christianson, Tommy Riffle, David Parker, and Josh Parker will be honored to serve as pallbearers.

The family will receive friends at Ponders Melrose Chapel from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. Tuesday and after 10:00 a.m. Wednesday until the service hour.

Arrangements are entrusted to Ponders Melrose Chapel, 138 Melrose Drive, Dalton, Georgia 30721.
