Miss. Marlene Schneider passed away on Tuesday, June 9, 2026.

Marlene was born November 11, 1931, at her home in Threadmill Village. She was a depression era baby and an only child. At the age of 14, she moved to Rome to attend Berry College, which at the time was a boarding high school as well as a college. After completing high school, she decided to stay at Berry College where she worked towards her nursing degree. She completed her nursing degree at Georgia Baptist Hospital School of Nursing in Atlanta. Marlene began her career working in surgery for several years and then transitioned to public health, which included the roles of nurse, clinical coordinator, and program manager. She provided follow up care for newborn babies, treated many illnesses, worked in mass clinics helping to administer polio vaccines, and helped the Red Cross by teaching first aid classes. She saw medical history unfold while faithfully serving her patients. She retired in 1991 after many years of public service.

Of even more importance than Marlene’s professional journey, was her journey of her faith. Like many southerners of her generation, she was “raised in church,” but never made a profession of faith. At the age of 19, while still at Berry College she attended services for Religious Emphasis Week. During these meetings, she decided that she would join a church and be baptized. Marlene went on to become a charter member of Kinsey Drive Baptist Church where she continually served faithfully.

Visitation will be held from 12:00 until 2:00 on Friday, June 12 at Love Funeral Home. The service will follow at 2:00.
