Mr. John Burton "Jay" Sales, age 88, of Rocky Face, Georgia, departed this life on Tuesday morning, June 30, 2026, at PruittHealth–Shepherd Hills, surrounded by his loving family.

Born on June 18, 1938, in Ellijay, Georgia, Jay was the son of the late John and Ruth Spivey Sales.

Jay was the owner and operator of Jay's Carpet for more than 10 years. He was a one-of-a-kind man with an adventurous spirit who loved traveling across the United States in pursuit of his favorite pastimes—hunting and fishing. While he enjoyed the outdoors and the many places his travels took him. He will be remembered for his unique personality, his love of family, and the many memories he created with those who knew and loved him.

He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Robin Sales of Rocky Face, Georgia; granddaughter, Allison Smith and her husband, Dakota, of Calhoun, Georgia; great-grandchildren, Dakson, Adley, and Ayla Smith, all of Calhoun, Georgia; brother, Cecil Sales of Atlanta, Georgia; along with several extended family members and friends.

In addition to his parents, Jay was preceded in death by those who welcomed him into eternal rest.

In accordance with Jay's wishes, the family will hold a private graveside service.

The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to the staff of PruittHealth–Shepherd Hills for the compassionate care and kindness shown to Jay during his final days.

Jay's adventurous spirit, love for the outdoors, and unwavering devotion to his family will be cherished and remembered always.
