Gene Hooper, 96, of Tunnel Hill, died Monday, June 8, 2026, in Jasper, Georgia.

He was born in Tunnel Hill, GA, the son of the late Roscoe and Mary Lou Hixson Hooper. His first wife, Frances Hooper, and four brothers, Delbert Hooper, Floyd Hooper, James Hooper, and Ralph Hooper; sister, Juanita Bryson; daughters, Sheila Diane Akins, Celia Denise Dycus also preceded him in death.

Gene was a faithful member of Westside Baptist Church in Rocky Face, Georgia. He was known by “Square” by his basketball teammates and it followed him throughout his lifetime. Gene loved to sing and always had a song ready whenever he was called on at church.

He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Marty and Rene Hooper; grandchildren, Tracey (Mark) Bender, Ashley (Brandon) Cannon, Jordan (Joseph) Duke, and Mary Dycus; great grandchildren, Juliana, Jaxsun, Jazper, Brady, CeCe, and Jayla; nieces and nephews also survive.

A funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, June 13, 2026, at the Rocky Face Chapel of Julian Peeples Funeral Home with Rev. Ronald Guffey and Rev. Rick Edwards officiating.

Burial will follow in Whitfield Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday, June 13, 2026, from 11:00 AM until the service hour of 1:00 PM.
